This 1962 JBR 64 Showa Memory Sheet bromide record is one of the most innovative and visually striking Sadaharu Oh collectibles of the early Showa era, uniquely blending a baseball card with a playable 45 RPM phonograph record—a concept loosely comparable to American Auravision issues of the same period, but far scarcer and distinctly Japanese in execution.

The Showa Memory Sheet series includes two known Sadaharu Oh variations, and the example offered here is the much scarcer “stands background” version, distinguished by its stadium crowd backdrop rather than a plain or studio setting.

According to the Japanese Baseball Checklist & Price Guide 4.0, this variation carries an R4 scarcity rating, indicating fewer than 10 examples are believed to exist within the hobby. The front features Oh captured in his iconic early-career batting stance, a precursor to his legendary flamingo pose, and is further enhanced by his facsimile autograph. A center hole allows the piece to function as an actual record, underscoring the novelty of the issue. The reverse contains a biographical profile of Oh along with promotional and company information from Showa Memory Sheet Co., emphasizing the dual-purpose nature of the item as both a collectible and an audio keepsake.

Notably, it has been approximately 15 years since we last offered an example of this record at auction, underscoring how infrequently this particular variation surfaces.
