Following the 1956 U.S. Major League Baseball season, the Brooklyn Dodgers toured Japan, facing various Japan Pro Baseball opposition 19 times. During this series, Jackie Robinson bid a fond farewell to baseball as an active player. The Dodgers finished the Tour with a record of 14-4-1. All the Boys of Summer participated including Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Don Newcombe, Don Drysdale and Carl Erskine. Japanese players included Tetsuharu Kawakami, Katsuya Nomura, Wally Yonamine, Masaichi Kaneda and Takehiko Bessho.
The metal tie bar offered here is a souvenir of the Tour that was presented to a player or dignitary. The front, with its a bat and glove motif, includes the famous Dodgers logo superimposed over the glove. The clip on the back contains the inscription, "5th Japan-US Baseball Tournament, 1956". This is the first example of a 1956 Dodgers Tour tie bar that we have ever offered or seen.
