The 1951 U.S. Major League All Stars Tour of Japan was the first postwar Tour to feature Major Leaguers. The marquee names were the DiMaggio brothers, Joe and Dom along with manager, Lefty O'Doul. Other luminaries such as Billy Martin, Ferris Fain, Ed Lopat, Bobby Shantz, Bob Lemon and Mel Parnell also made the trip.
This is the first tie bar that we have ever seen that emanates from the 1951 Tour. This clip was issued to a player or dignitary who was involved in the Tour. It was produced for the game played on November 8, 1951 at Nishinomiya Stadium. The game ended in an ll inning a 2-2 tie, called as a result of darkness. Bobby Shantz and Mel Parnell were the primary U.S. team pitchers. Overall, the Major Leaguers won 13 games with one loss and two ties during the Tour.
The enameled front of the tie bar includes the text, "1951 Japan-United States Friendly Baseball. Japanese and American flags appear prominently. The back contains the legend, "8 Nov 1951, Hankyu Nishinomiya Stadium".
