In 1955, the Kyodo Dairy Co. was the first company in Japan to introduce ice cream on a stick. The product was originally called simply "Ice Cream Bar" and was an immediate hit. In order to further boost sales, the company hired Shigeo Nagashima in 1960 to be the company spokesman and changed the product name to "Home Run Bar". In addition to the name change, Kyodo Dairy began inserting a prize lottery ticket with the product.
This poster, printed in 1961, features Shigeo Nagashima pitching the product and the prizes that can be won by purchasers of Home Run Ice Cream Bar. Nagashima's visage and facsimile autograph are seen above the list of prizes offered with pictures.
This is the first such poster that we have ever encountered. It is made of acetate material and was meant to be displayed at the point of purchase. If you still have a prize winning ticket, it's too late for you, as all winning tickets needed to be redeemed by the end of October 1961. Ultimately, the ice cream bar was renamed "2 Run Homer" and eventually, "Premium Home Run Bar". The product still exists today.
