This is a poster inviting people to a game on 6/23/52 between the Toei Flyers and the Nishitetsu Lions. It appears to be an exhibition game, since no Japan Pro Baseball league game was played between the two teams on that date. However, the two teams met in a regular season doubleheader on 6/25. Although the year is not printed on the poster, we know that it was printed in 1952, because there are five player headshots on the flyer, and one of them depicts Billy Wyatt.
Billy Wyatt was a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Fukuoka, Japan. Despite having no previous pro baseball experience, he signed with the Nishitetsu Lions. He batted .262 with five homers during his only season in Japan. After leaving the army, he played four seasons in the U.S. minor leagues, never progressing beyond Class C baseball before retiring after the 1956 season.
The players pictured on the poster are (left to right) Billy Wyatt, Yasuhiro Fukami, Toshiaki Ogata, Noboru Tsunemi and Hiroshi Oshita (HOF).
According to the poster, the day's events will consist of 1. Organizers Meeting 2. Bouquet Presentation 3. 500 signed balls (both teams) 4. First Pitch 5. Play Ball.
According to the sponsor, any person is invited provided that they purchase a baseball uniform or other clothing that costs at least 600 yen. The general public will not be admitted. The poster states that the game was organized by Two Swallows Clothing Manufacturer, Daiko Shoko Co., Ltd., so we are assuming that the clothing to be purchased is associated with this company.
The poster will be shipped folded.
