The only previous time we have had the opportunity to auction an example of this card was way back in 2007.  Printed next to Yonamine's  ame in parentheses is "Shinjin" which means Rookie.

Wally Yonamine was the first postwar American to become a star baseball player in Japan. The former San Francisco 49ers running back and US minor league baseball player wowed the Japanese with his hard nosed style of play which changed Japanese baseball forever. Wally played for the Yomiuri Giants from 1951-1960 and for the Dragons in 1961 and 1962. Later, he became a manager.

Wally Yonamine was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994, the same year as Sadaharu Oh.
