We believe that this card was originally issued as a 1st prize winner on a display sheet associated with an unknown Japanese card set. It is a team card consisting of San Francisco Seals players who actually went on the team's 1949 Tour of Japan. Therefore, we believe that the photo used for the card was actually taken in Japan. This is only the second example of this card that we have ever seen!
One exciting feature of this card is that all player names in Japanese katakana are printed across the players' chests, rather than being printed along the bottom, or being completely omitted. Therefore, it is easy to decipher exactly who appears on the card. Lefty O'Doul can be seen at upper right. Just to be clear, the names are part of the card. They were not hand printed by someone after the card was manufactured. Blank back card.
