Shortly after winding down his Hall of Fame career with the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League, Arky Vaughan died tragically in 1952 at the age of 40 when on a fishing trip in California with his friend Bill Wimer, Wimer stood up in the small boat causing it to capsize. Both men drowned. However, Vaughan left behind several baseball records. His .385 batting average in 1935, coupled with an on base percentage of .491 and ridiculously high OPS of 1.098 are all Pirates team records. His batting average that year was the best recorded by a shortstop during the 20th century! In his 2001 historical baseball abstract, Bill James named Vaughan the second best shortstop in the history of baseball behind the legendary Honus Wagner. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.

This is the only JBR 80a card ever encapsulated by PSA. Therefore, it is a 1 of 1 at this grade with none higher.
