Lefty O'Doul had already participated as a player during the U.S. Major League All Star Tours of Japan in 1931 and 1934, before bringing his San Francisco Seals to Japan in 1949. The Seals Tour was one of the first postwar cultural exchanges between Japan and the U.S. O'Doul actually was the starting pitcher in the final game of the Tour, going three innings and giving up two runs in a 4-2 13 inning victory over the All Tokyo Big Six University team. He was ultimately elected to the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame for his contributions to Japanese baseball.
This one of only two such O'Doul cards in the JBR 80a set to have been encapsulated by PSA. The only other example received a grade of 2.5. Blank backed card.
