Presenting, for the first time, the most complete
set of 1950 JBR 9 Marutoku Narrow Bromide baseball cards ever assembled!
JBR 9 is one of the iconic sets of vintage Japanese baseball
card collecting. For the last 30+ years,
we have thought that the set was complete at 80 cards. A few months ago, we discovered four more
cards to add to the checklist. We were
shocked! We had just purchased a 70-year-old
collection that included over 1,000 JBR 9 cards—probably more than we had ever
seen in aggregate over the years. We
collated the cards, and while there were about ten to fifteen copies of most
cards, there were two copies each of four cards that we had never seen
before!
Naturally, at that point, we decided to put a
complete set together. Never before had
a complete 80 card set of JBR 9 been assembled.
Now we had the chance to produce something even better! Alas, we fell one card short (Iwamoto (HOF)
RHB plate visible) and had to settle for a near set of 83 out of 84 cards. Nevertheless, this is a powerful collection.
The set offered here is a Who’s Who of Japanese
stars of the era, including Japan Hall of Famers Hiroshi Oshita (3 diff.),
Tokuji Iida, Atsushi Aramaki (rookie) (2 diff.), Kaoru Betto, Shosei Go,
Hisanori Karita, Junzo Sekine (rookie), Victor Starffin (2 diff.), Katsumi
Shiraishi, Michio Nishizawa (2 diff.), Shigeru Sugishita (2 diff.), Noboru
Aota, Takehiko Bessho, Shigeru Chiba (2 diff.), Hideo Fujimura (2 diff.),
Tetsuharu Kawakami (3 diff.), Yoshiyuki Iwamoto, Makoto Kozuru (2 diff.), Juzo
Sanada (4 diff.) and Fumio Fujimura.
That’s 34 HOFer cards out of 83, including 3 HOFer rookie cards and 20
different HOF players!
This is an unprecedented chance to own one of the
most important sets in the history of Japanese baseball card collecting.
