Caramel cards were inserted into packages of candy and could be redeemed for prizes. As a result, all caramel cards of the early 1950s are quite scarce, as most were redeemed at the time. The three players depicted in this lot are Tetsuharu Kawakami (bottom), Shigeru Chiba (upper left) and Takehiko Bessho (upper right). Kawakami, the best hitter of his era, was known as the God of Batting. He won three MVP awards and five batting titles. His managerial career was even more spectacular. his Yomiuri Giants won nine consecutive Japan Series championships! Chiba, known as the Formidable Buffalo, was the Giants' second baseman from 1938 to 1958. He was an expert at playing "Little Ball". Bessho was Japan's premier pitcher during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He won 310 games, with a lifetime ERA of 2.18. The redemption stamping appears on the card fronts, as is generally the case with JF 11 cards.

Size: Each card is 1 11/16" X 2 5/16"

Condition: The cards exhibit varying degrees of paper loss at the edges. The Kawakami card is heavily creased. Overall fair to poor.
