The JY 6 Yamakatsu set has always been popular with collectors because of the crisp, high quality, pure card color photos of the players and ultra white backs.
What makes this card special is that it has the Home Run Prize stamp printed by the manufacturer on the back. This overprint is seen only rarely on cards in the JY 6 set. The reason for the scarcity of JY 6 Home Run Prize cards is obvious. The company didn't want to award too many prizes to collectors. The example offered here is unredeemed. Therefore, it does not contain any damage caused during the redemption process.
There are two cards in the set that feature Sadaharu Oh. This card depicts Oh in mid-swing with his eye kept firmly on the ball. It's a great shot of Japan's most iconic vintage player. In 1978, Oh clubbed his 800th lifetime home run. Will anyone else ever surpass that total?
Only four copies of this Sadaharu Oh winner overprint card have ever been graded by PSA. We have offered one of the two PSA 8s previously at auction. A third example is a PSA 3 with a qualifier. Thus, the example offered here stands at the pinnacle of the PSA grading pyramid for this card. SGC has graded only one example which was graded SGC 6. CGC has not graded any examples.
