The JY 6 Yamakatsu set has always been popular with collectors because of the crisp, high quality, pure card color photos of the players, along with ultra white backs, and the fact that it is one of the earliest American sized baseball card sets produced in Japan.
What makes this card special is that it has the Home Run Prize stamp printed by the manufacturer on the back. This overprint is seen only rarely on cards in the JY 6 set. The reason for the scarcity of JY 6 Home Run Prize cards is obvious. The company didn't want to award too many prizes to collectors. The example offered here is unredeemed. Therefore, it does not contain any damage caused during the redemption process.
Isao Harimoto is Japan's only member of the 500 home runs and 3,000 hits club. In fact, he is the only player to get 3,000 or more hits during his Japan Pro Baseball career. In 1959, he was named Pacific League Rookie of the Year. A left handed hitting outfielder, Harimoto was named to his league's Best 9 team 16 times and was Pacific League MVP in 1962.
No Regular JY 6 Yamakatsu Harimoto card has ever been graded higher than 9. Since the cards are not broken down on the PSA Population Report, we are not sure how many other Overprint Variation Harimotos have received this grade, but rest assured that it could not be many.
