The JBR 184 Heibon magazine All Star Bromides set was issued in the September 1958 issue as three, 15 card uncut sheets held together by a cigar band wrapper. While nearly all cards in the set depict entertainers, there are five sumo wrestlers and two baseball players, the other baseball player being HOFer Masaichi Kaneda.
This sheet of thin cardboard cards is the most highly coveted sheet by collectors in that the center card is a Shigeo Nagashima rookie. What's more, it is a rare Nagashima rookie in that Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Version 3.0 lists the JBR 184 set as having a scarcity factor of R5, which means that five or fewer copies of this Nagashima card are known. On the back of the Nagashima card, we find basic information such as date of birth, height, weight and the fact that he likes beef tempura. Sumo Yokozuna (Grand Champion) Tochinishiki is seen on the second from left card in the top row.
The sheet has minor damage around the left edge, but since the Nagashima card is in the center, it has been spared from any wear.
Size: The uncut sheet is 7 1/8" x 5". Each card is 1 7/16" x 1 11/16".
Condition: The sheet has some damage along the left edge and wear on all edges. The Nagashima card is in outstanding condition, and would likely grade very high if cut from the sheet.
