JCM 23 is one of several sets produced to honor Shigeo Nagashima's rookie season. Following his stellar career at Rikkio U., Nagashima's entry into Japan Pro Baseball was possibly the most highly anticipated professional debut of all time. He certainly didn't disappoint the fans, as he batted .305 with 29 homers and 92 RBI in 130 games, leading the Yomiuri Giants to the Central League title. For his efforts, he was named Central League Rookie of the Year. From there, Nagashima went on to become Japan's most revered player ever and a cultural icon.
CGC has graded only this one example of the JCM 23 Nagashima card. SGC has graded one copy which was graded Authentic. No JCM 23 cards appear in the PSA pop report, however, in Auction 60 we offered a PSA 8 which was graded about 15 years ago. The aforementioned cards are the only ones known to ever have been graded by any third party grading company.
