These very scarce cards were issued in uncut panels of three within the pages of a boys' magazine over a period of several months during 1959. According to the information on the backs, 100 cards of sports stars (various sports) were issued, but we believe that the number of different baseball player cards is just 33. Nearly all cards from this set seen today are singles, cut from the panels after they were removed from the magazine. The cards are quite scarce in any form. Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0 has given the JBR 61 set an R4 designation, indicating that 10 or fewer examples of each card are known.
This JBR 61 card of Japan’s Mr. Giants, Shigeo Nagashima, has received the grade of PSA 2 miscut. The miscut designation is due to the back being quite off-centered left to right. All examples of this card have off-centered backs, but this card is more off-centered on the back than most others we have seen. However, the front is not off-center.
Size: 2 1/4" x 5”
Condition: PSA 2 (Good) MC (miscut) due to off-centering left to right only on the back.
