In 1949, the San Francisco Seals, led by manager Lefty O’Doul, participated in one of the first postwar cultural exchanges between Japan and the United States. This Japan tour is regarded by many in Japan to be the most highly anticipated of all the visits by American baseball teams to Japan.
What we have here is a magnificent postcard sized team photo with 29 players, each identified by his facsimile signature, name in Japanese and position. We have never seen another example of this card. If you are a fan of the 1949 San Francisco Seals Tour of Japan, this item would certainly be one of the cornerstones of your Seals collection.
