This postcard was originally printed as part of an uncut sheet of four postcards appended to the August 15, 1962 issue of Shonen Book magazine, It is rarely seen today. In fact, we have never before offered one for sale or auction. The four postcards on the uncut sheet were entitled "Popular People Bromide Postcards". The other three postcards featured pro wrestler Rikidozan (murdered in 1963), sumo yokozuna (grand champion) Taiho and American actor Robert Fuller of the TV series Laramie, who was wildly popular in Japan during this period.
The striking image of Shigeo Nagashima seen here is not known to be used on any other baseball cards or postcards of the era. Nagashima's full name and team are printed in Japanese at lower left. On the back, "Shonen Book summer vacation publication" is printed in the center.
