Sadaharu Oh hit 868 home runs during his career. Therefore, the quest to collect a ticket from every game in which he homered would be a Herculean task. This is especially true because during the early years of his career, Oh was not a standout. In fact, during his first three seasons playing for the Yomiuri Giants he hit only 7, 17 and 13 round trippers. Thus, tickets from games in which Oh homered during his initial years are rarely seen. In fact, this ticket for the game in which Oh belted career homer number 16, is the earliest Oh home run ticket that we have ever encountered.

The ticket offered here commemorates the game of July 20, 1960 played at Korakuen Stadium, home of the Giants, against the Yakult Swallows. Interestingly, Oh homered in this game against Yakult Swallows pitcher, Masaichi Kaneda, who won 400 career games and is regarded by many as Japan's greatest all time pitcher. In 1960, Kaneda went on to win 20 games, compile a 2.12 ERA and strike out 262 batters. Oh hit a mere .253 to go along with his 13 homers and 53 RBIs. Who knew at the point how great a slugger Oh was to become?
