From the beginning of Japan Pro Baseball in 1936 to the end of the 1981 season, the Giants and Tigers had played each other 997 times with the Giants having won 536 games, the Tigers winning 419 times, and the teams having played to a tie on 42 occasions. This shikishi, which was to be placed between a student's desk and the sheet of paper he/she was writing on, was produced in early 1982 to honor the 1,000th game between the two teams. The game was to be played early in the 1982 season.
