On August 30, 1978, a crowd of 55,000 spectators packed Korakuen Stadium, hoping that Sadaharu Oh would smack his 800th career home run that day. Oh rewarded the fans in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Taiyo Whales reliever, Hiroshi Okawa, Oh drove the first pitch over the fence in right field. The ball ended up in the shoe of a Giants fan who had removed his footwear while watching the game!

The coin on offer here, which commemorates this legendary feat, is still housed in its original plastic case. The obverse of the coin depicts Oh in his classic flamingo batting stance, with "number 800" in the background, and his name in English at the bottom. The reverse contains the world famous interlocking YG Yomiuri Giants logo and the date of this accomplishment.  Oh went on to hit 868 homers, easily a world record, before finally hanging up his spikes after the 1980 season.

Condition: Coin--Mint Uncirculated. Case--Ex with a hairline scratch on the reverse which does not affect the condition of the coin inside.
