This is a truly unusual bookmark card that we have not seen before in our 32 years of buying, selling and auctioning Japanese baseball cards and memorabilia. Normally school schedule bookmark cards were produced by children's magazines. This one seems to have been produced by a company that offers sightseeing bus tours!
While the photo of Sugishita was taken by the Asahi Newspaper Co., it seems like that company has nothing else to do with the card, which promotes the Chukyo Sightseeing Company's services. The back features a blank school schedule that students can fill out, along with a 1955 calendar. The bottom portion seems to be a ticket stub, so possibly that portion was removed when one used the bus.
Shigeru Sugishita was one of the premier pitchers of the 1950s. He compiled 215 wins in just 11 seasons. He won over 30 games in a season twice, and won three Sawamura (Japan Cy Young) awards. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985. This is a truly unique item!
