Until recently, only one copy of this card was known to exist. Now, here's a second example. The other copy of this card has been sitting comfortably in a collection for a number of years and is unlikely to be sold for decades. The scarcity of this card is due in part to the valuable prizes for which the card could be redeemed. Five jackpot cards generally entitled the collector to receive a baseball autographed by Sadaharu Oh, Shigeo Nagashima, or one of several other big stars of Japan Pro Baseball. This third year card of Shigeo Nagashima's teammate at Rikkio U. and rival in the 1959 Japan Series is an incredible rarity. Sugiura was Pacific League ROY in 1958, winning 27 games and fashioning a 2.05 ERA. The following season, Sugiura dazzled Japan with a 38-4 won/loss record and miniscule 1.41 ERA. Incidentally, both known examples of this card are well off centered left to right, so it is quite possible that all Sugiura jackpot cards were printed in this manner.
