For the Yomiuri Giants, 1962 was a surprising down year, as the team slumped to a fourth place finish in the Central League following a Japan Series championship in 1961. Manager Tetsuharu Kawakami would subsequently redeem
himself with another Japan Series title in 1963, which was merely a precursor to nine consecutive Japan Series crowns from 1965-1973. The players who autographed this shikishi were by and large important members of more widely
heralded teams of previous and subsequent years. The list of autographs going in a clockwise direction beginning with the vertical signature directly under "1962 Giants" is: Tsuneo Takabayashi, Shigeo Nagashima (HOF), Hiromoto
Murase, Isao Shibata (Golden Player) (rookie), Minoru Nakamura, Shigeru Fujio, Andy Miyamoto (Hawaii), Eiichiro Takahashi, Shin Fujimoto, Sadaharu Oh (HOF) and Ritsuo Horimoto. 1962 was the year in which Sadaharu Oh led the
Central League in homers for the first time. He would eventually claim the Central League home run title in every year from 1962 to 1974--a whopping 13 consecutive seasons! Signed in black marker.
