Sugishita was one of the premier pitchers of the 1950s. He compiled 215 wins in just 11 seasons. He won over 30 games in a season twice, and won three Sawamura (Japan Cy Young) awards. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in
1985. He has written "Dragons" (his team nickname) in Japanese above his signature.
