Following the 1953 season, two groups of U.S. Major Leaguers made their way around the country simultaneously. One was a team of All Stars, while the other was a New York Giants team tour. In fact, a number of Japanese stars
provided opposition to both tours at times. This original photo was taken during the opening parade of the Giants Tour. Giants manager Leo Durocher and his wife, the movie actress Laraine Day, are the focal point of this image. This is a
lovely shot that also captures the the essence of post war Japan. During the Tour, the New York Giants won 12 of the 14 games played, with one loss and one tie. This photo is a bit larger than those found in the 1953 Giants Tour album,
which was presented to various dignitaries during the Tour, and this image was not included in the album.
