Only two copies of this card of Japan Pro Baseball umpire Shoichi Kunitomo are known, and this is the first example ever to be offered to the public. The 1952 Osato Gangu is the only card ever produced of Shoichi Kunitomo. Kunitomo
(1910-1981) umpired in 2,675 Central League games from 1946 to 1968, including four All Star Games and three Japan Series. He was most famous as an early proponent of the inside chest protector. Prior to his career as an umpire, he
was a first baseman/outfielder for Rikkio University of the Tokyo Big Six University League in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
