The 1952 JGA 38 Osato Gangu Color Cards are orders of magnitude scarcer than the 1951 black & white issue. Only three copies are known of this card of Japan Hall of Famer Tetsuharu Kawakami. Known as the "God of Batting",
Kawakami, a first baseman, was the greatest Japanese hitter of his generation. His best season came in 1951 after a meeting with Joe DiMaggio about batting. He used the Yankee Clipper's advice to fashion a .377 batting average that
season. Additionally, he struck out only six times that year! In 1956, Kawakami hit .364 during the Brooklyn Dodgers Tour of Japan. He won three MVP awards and five batting championships. After retirement as an active player, he
became Japan's all time greatest manager, leading the Yomiuri Giants to nine consecutive Japan Series titles.
