As Nidegawa was born in 1901 and played Big Six U. baseball from 1922 to 1924 (several years before the advent of Japanese baseball cards), very few collectors have even one card of this Japan Baseball Hall of Famer in their
collection. Luckily, Nidegawa spent many years as an umpire in Japan Pro Baseball (1936-1962). However, as with U.S. cards, cards featuring umpires are few and far between. Only three copies of this card are known to exist. The only
one we have offered in the past was quite off-centered. This one is much nicer. Nidegawa became Pacific League umpire-in-chief in 1950. His knowledge of the rules was legendary. During one confrontation, he supposedly thundered, "I
am the rulebook."
