Long before Wally Yonamine entered Japan Pro Baseball in 1951, a number of Hawaiian luminaries starred in Japan. Henry Wakabayashi was
born on a pineapple plantation in Hawaii in 1908. Japanese scouts were so impressed with his pitching skills that he was brought to Japan to
play in the Tokyo Big Six University League, which was Japan's top league at the time, beginning in 1929. Later, as a member of the Tigers team
in Japan Pro Baseball, he compiled a 237-144 won-loss record with a lifetime 1.99 ERA. Both of these oversized premium cards were originally
second prize winners attached to display sheets. Blank backed.
Size: The two cards are 3 3/4" x 5 3/8" and 4 1/8" x 5 3/4".
Condition: Both cards exhibit chipping and creasing. The card at left shows evidence on the back of having originally been attached to a display
sheet, and also evidence of having been glued into an album. The card at right has evidence of having previously been attached to a display
sheet. All cards of this type were originally attached to display sheets, so the extra glue and paper do not affect the grade. Fair condition.
