Yonamine was the American who changed Japanese baseball. His aggressive style of play, especially on the basepaths, captivated the Japanese fans, who had been used to a more genteel style of play. He won three batting championships, was Central League MVP in 1957 and was named to the Best 9 team for seven consecutive seasons. This is a card from Yonamine's second year in Japan. During that season he batted .344 with 38 stolen bases. The extra paper seen in the upper left corner of this card, and the missing paper at the upper right corner are typical of this issue. These cards were manufactured in sheets which were not cut completely at the corners. A company employee would tear the cards individually from the sheet and place them in tabas (hanging bundles) for sale. Blank backed.

Size: 1 3/4" x 2 1/2"

Condition: Near Mint with corners typical of manufacture.
