The U.S. Major League All Stars who toured Japan in 1951 were a star studded group. While the featured players of the 1931 Tour were Lou Gehrig and Lefty Grove, and the 1934 Tour starred Babe Ruth, the 1951 Tour was led by the DiMaggio brothers, Joe and Dom. Joe’s little brother, the youngest of nine DiMaggio children, was a star in his own right. The fleet footed centerfielder, nicknamed the professor because of his trademark glasses, was a seven time AL all-star during his 11 year, war interrupted, career with the Boston Red Sox. While he didn't possess the power of brother Joe, his .298 lifetime average is proof that he was an outstanding hitter. In fact, Dom outhit Joe on the 1951 Japan Tour, batting .319 with three homers vs. Joe’s .296 with two home runs.

This beautifully colored card is a first prize winner from a bromide card display sheet. We are not sure for which set this card was a premium. This is only the second example of this card that we have seen. It is also one of a very few card types of Dom DiMaggio cards ever produced in Japan. Blank backed.

Size: Approximately 7" x 10"

Condition: There is a corner crease at upper left and minor discoloration and peeling in the upper right corner. There is also extra paper on the back due to the card’s having been pasted on the display sheet by the manufacturer, as would be the case with any copy of this card. Overall the card presents very well with vivid colors, but due to the corner issues, the overall grade is Vg/Ex.
