Aota was a five time home run champion whose glory years were spent with the Yomiuri Giants. A hard partier, fighter and gambler, Aota, an outfielder, had a relatively short career, retiring at age 34 after several ordinary seasons. It is said that his purported gambling activities delayed his induction into the Hall of Fame for many years.
This card was originally a first prize premium on a display sheet associated with an unknown bromide set. The bearer of a regular bromide card from the set with a first prize winner notation printed on the back by the manufacturer was entitled to select this card. Blank backed.
