Manager Lefty O' Doul and his San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League traveled to Japan in 1949 for the "Goodwill Tour". This was an important event in Japan, since it was one of the first postwar cultural exchanges between Japan and the U.S. Interest in this Tour was greater than for any other before or since.
This incredible paper scoreboard, produced by the Yomiuri Shimbun (newspaper), has the Seals roster printed on the right side.
Players that participated in this game, played on October 29th at Jingu Stadium, are handwritten onto the scoreboard.
The Seals defeated the All-Japan team 1-0 on a game winning home run by Dick Steinhauer. He is listed in bold as the player of the game.
Victor Starffin was the starting pitcher for the All-Japan team, but Yoshio Tenpo was credited with the loss.
