In the late 1940s, bromide sets occasionally contained cards featuring a number of players on the same team. Generally, that team was the Yomiuri Giants. The Giants were Japan's team, and featured a galaxy of stars. Hall of Famers such as Tetsuharu Kawakami (God of Batting), Takehiko Bessho (300 wins), Hideo Fujimoto (lowest lifetime ERA), Hiroshi Nakao, Katsumi Shiraishi, Shigeru Chiba (The Formidable Buffalo) and manager Shigeru Mizuhara can all be seen in this lot. The largest premium offered here shows the heart of the Giants' lineup--Kawakami, Chiba and Noboru Aota. Aota was a Hall of Fame caliber player who was never so honored because of purported ties to organized crime. This lot truly captures the team spirit of the great Giants teams of old.
