Hoshi Gangu cards have long captured the imagination of American baseball card collectors, in part because of the rare Sadaharu Oh rookie cards that are part of the set. It has long been known that the twenty cards in the set are found in the more "common" white border variety, and the ten times scarcer gold border variety. While white bordered cards, especially the Oh card, have sold for high prices in the past, gold border card prices have generally been among the highest in the Japan card collecting hobby, with Oh cards reaching well into four figures.
While the Gold Border Hoshi Gangu cards are scarce, the Red Border Hoshi Gangu cards are in a class by themselves. This is one of only three Hoshi Gangu Red Border Sadaharu Oh cards known to exist. Some cards in the set are still unknown in the red border variety. Sadaharu Oh needs no introduction to Japan baseball enthusiasts. His 868 lifetime homers, 2,170 RBI and 1,967 runs scored combined with a lifetime average of over .300 prove that he was one of the greatest players the world has ever seen. If you want a copy of Sadaharu Oh's rarest rookie card, look no further.
