The product originally contained in this now empty packaging was pre-dyed cotton muslin called "Center Moss". A naphthol dye was used to color the cloth. According to the promotional text on the package, the dye will never fade when washed or exposed to sunlight. This package contained 21.6 meters of the cloth.
Most importantly, the colorful image on the package seems to be an image of a New York Yankees player. However, we realize that Yankees road uniforms don't contain pinstripes. The player leaping for the ball may or may not represent Joe DiMaggio. The drawing might have indeed been inspired by a photo of DiMaggio, but most companies in Japan at the time did not want to pay royalties to subjects, and therefore the artist may have modified the image in the photo simply to get around copyright law.
In any case, the wrapper offered here is a fine example of vintage Japanese baseball and New York Yankees commercial art.
