This image was undoubtedly taken during the 1971 Baltimore Orioles post season Tour of Japan. The Orioles had a won-loss record of 12-2-4 on the Tour. Boog Powell hit .398 with 6 homers during the Tour.
At the age of nearly 36 years, Shigeo Nagashima's career was beginning to wind down. He batted only .250 with 2 homers during the Tour. In his three post-1971 Tour seasons with the Yomiuri Giants, Nagashima endured his poorest three seasons, never batting more than .269, before retiring at the end of the 1974 season. However, the 1975 JMC 1 set was produced to honor Nagashima, who may be the most popular Japanese player ever, and is certainly the most beloved.
