This is only the second time that we have had the opportunity to auction a JBR 219 Nagashima card. The previous occasion was in 2003. The card is quite scarce.
Japan's most popular player, "Mr. Giants" is considered by many Japanese fans to have been the greatest Japanese pre-Ichiro and Ohtani Japan Pro Baseball player ever. Following a spectacular career at Rikkio U., he immediately became a pro star, capturing the 1958 Central League Rookie of the Year award. Nagashima, a third baseman, played for 17 seasons, and was named to the Best 9 team in every season. He was named Central League MVP on five occasions. He won six batting titles and five RBI titles. He was often compared defensively to Brooks Robinson. While playing for the Giants, his teams won the Japan Series title 11 times. Against touring U.S. Major League All Star teams, he batted .292 in 202 at bats.
This is a card that appears on nearly every Nagashima collector's want list.
