The Lili company made numerous gum and candy products during the 1950s and 60s. The company is best known to Japanese baseball card collectors as the producer of the 1960 JF 28 Lili Gum set. This box appears to be a dispenser for Lili Stick Gum. Each piece of gum cost 5 yen, and according to the dispenser, it was possible to receive a team badge as a prize. The dispenser originally held 100 gum pieces. One side of the box contains a large headshot drawing of Sadaharu Oh, while another side depicts Shigeo Nagashima.
The inside of the lid is a stadium scene relating to a game between the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers. The batting orders for the two teams are posted on the scoreboard. Based on the names involved, the dispenser seems to have been printed around 1969. Therefore, the gum originally found inside the box is not related to the JF 28 Lili Gum card set. However, this is a colorful, one-of-a-kind, very attractive vintage baseball display.
