This giant foldout was included in the January 1, 1931 issue of the Yomiuri Shimbun. There are four pages of comics that, when unfolded, reveal a giant sized sugoroku entitled Moving Fast Around the World.
Sugoroku is a dice game played on a paper game "board". With each roll of the dice, a player's piece is moved around the board until he or she reaches the center and is declared the winner. This is the largest and most elaborate sugoroku that we have ever seen! Each square represents a different country, including a scene and text that describes it. What is most interesting to baseball fans is that in the center, we see Babe Ruth with an American flag, a sailor and the Manhattan skyline. The Japanese text reads, "Babe Ruth, home run king".
In the Norway box we see explorer Roald Amundsen cavorting with what appears to be a penguin. In the Italian box, we see Benito Mussolini. In square after square, we see different images that are identified with the particular country being depicted. This sugoroku is a fascinating work of art.
Size: 43" x 31" when unfolded. The item will be shipped folded, as originally issued with the newspaper in 1931.
Condition: There is a 3 1/4" tear on the left side along a fold. Otherwise, it is in very nice condition.
