In 1974, Big Frank, The Man from Morrell, had an ever so brief stint (1 game, 2 at bats, .000 B.A.) with the Lions in Japan after finishing up his U.S. Major League career in 1973. The Japanese public was quite excited about Howard's Japan debut, and Calbee produced two different Howard cards in anticipation of the event. Obviously, Howard proved to be one of several "Major League Busts" of the 1970s in Japan. This card is rarely found compared to most other 1974 Calbees, so it is assumed that the card was pulled by the company early in the print run after Howard's disastrous performance and departure.
