The JCM 13c Sadaharu Oh card has always been quite popular with collectors because it features a beautiful close-up image of Mr. Oh in his classic flamingo batting stance. High grade early 1960s Sadaharu Oh "tobacco menko" type cards are increasingly difficult to find as the years pass.

JCM 13c was one of the first sets imported to the U.S. As a result, the set has been known to Stateside collectors for six decades. Most examples seen in the United States contain the U.S. importer's hand stamp on the back. This hand stamp was not part of the original card, but was added later by the importer. For purchasers of the set who could not read Japanese, the importer provided a list of player names in English, along with the corresponding hand stamped numbers. The card auctioned here is offered in its originally manufactured form and thus, it does not contain the hand stamp.

This card has nice, wide white borders. Many examples of the JCM 13c Sadaharu Oh card that were encapsulated years ago by PSA have narrow borders, as the submitters often trimmed the card significantly in hopes of receiving a higher grade. Unfortunately, at that time, PSA was not so familiar with the cards and as a result, a number of these cards with high PSA grades would not pass muster if submitted today. One glance at the images of the JCM 13c Oh cards in the Auction Prices section of the PSA Pop Report will confirm this fact.
