In our 37 years of buying, selling and auctioning Japanese baseball cards, this is the first example of this card that we have had the pleasure to offer. The card is described in Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0 as "Victor Starffin-RHP full body, mid delivery, only one man seen at far left". While JBR 75 is a set issued in series during both 1948 and 1949, we know that this card is a 1949 issue, since Starffin is seen wearing a uniform that his team began wearing during the 1949 season. It is one of four known Victor Starffin cards in the set. 1949 was Starffin's last great season in Japan Pro Baseball. Pitching a whopping 376 innings, Starffin won 27 games while fashioning a 2.61 ERA.
