Calbee has produced baseball sets every year from 1973 to the present. Only Topps has ever had a longer annual run of card production. JC 1 and JC 2 were both produced in 1973. JC 1 was a 91 card issue. JC 2 was a 368 card set. The fronts of the first 91 cards of JC 2 are essentially the same cards as the JC 1 issue--same players, same images, same text, same card numbers. However, the reverse sides are totally different. JC 1 backs have a crossed bats motif, while the JC 2 backs feature the player's team flag.

The first six cards of JC 1 and JC 2 are various poses of Mr. Giants, Shigeo Nagashima. Cards #7-12 feature Sadaharu Oh. Over the years, Calbee issued more than 1,000 different Sadaharu Oh cards! However, the card offered here is part of the first short run of Calbee Oh cards ever issued. Thus, it maintains a special place in the history of both Calbee cards and Sadaharu Oh cards.
