Hall of Famer George Kelly joined Lou Gehrig, Lefty Grove and other Hall of Famers on a team of all stars who toured Japan in 1931. This very rare card (only three examples known) features Kelly, a member of the minor league Minneapolis Millers at the time, in his U.S. All Stars uniform. In 1931, George Kelly was near the end of his baseball career that had begun in 1914. Following the Tour, In 1932, he played one last major league season with the Brooklyn Dodgers
The Japanese text on the card reads, "First Base--U.S. Japan All Star Match--Kelly". Kelly's facsimile autograph is seen at lower left.
The Americans had a record of 17-0 on the Tour facing various top Japanese opposition. Kelly appeared in 14 games, batting .298 with two homers.
