Dr. Bobby Brown (1924-2021), a Yankee third baseman from 1946-1954, was also a war hero, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. Moreover, he was a trained cardiologist and later President of the American League. During the 1952 season, he was called to serve in Korea. While still overseas in 1953, he sent the letter offered here to Arthur "Red" Patterson, who was the public relations director for the New York Yankees at the time. Subsequently, Patterson would serve in a similar capacity for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and would later become president of the California Angels.

In this letter, Brown discusses a forthcoming visit to New York by Cappy Harada, U.S. Japan Tour organizer and General Manager of the Yomiuri Giants. According to Dr. Brown, Mr. Harada would be visiting Yankees General Manager George Weiss to assess Weiss' interest in having the New York Yankees engage in a future Tour of Japan. Dr. Brown informed Mr. Patterson in the letter that Mr. Harada would be contacting him as well.

The letter is signed, "Sincerely, Bobby", and Brown also signed his first and last names on the return address portion of the accompanying envelope. This letter with original envelope is a truly remarkable historical document which describes how the 1955 New York Yankees Tour of Japan got started.

Size: Letter--8" x 10". Envelope--9 1/2" x 4 1/8".

Condition: Text and signature on the letter grade 9 out of 10. There is a slight bit of paper missing in the upper left corner, most likely caused when Dr. Brown tore the blank sheet from a tablet before he wrote the letter. Envelope--Some crinkles. Text and signature on the envelope grade 8 out of 10.
