After a very disappointing rookie year in 1959 (.161 batting average with 7 homers, 25 RBI and an OPS of only .579), Sadaharu Oh, at age 20, began to justify the hype he had received prior to the previous season. In 1960, he improved to .270, 17, 71 with an OPS of .823. This was still a far cry from the heights he ultimately attained. It wasn't until 1963 that he started putting up eye popping numbers, after adopting his trademark flamingo batting stance. But by 1960 fans could see that he had enormous potential.
