The cards of the JBR 62 set were originally attached to the inside back pages of Third Year Elementary School Magazine in three uncut sheets. They were a New Year's gift to readers of the January 1960 issue. In addition to the baseball cards, five sumo cards and various cards of entertainers were included in the set. Interestingly, while most cards are 1 11/16” x 3 1/4”, three baseball cards including the card of Masaichi Kaneda are only 1 11/16” x 3 3/16”!

Masaichi Kaneda was Japan's most impressive pitcher ever. In a career that stretched from 1950 to 1969, Kaneda appeared in 944 games, mostly as a starter, and won 400 of them. He also managed to strike out a near Ryanesque 4,490 batters, while achieving a lifetime ERA of 2.34. These are the most impressive statistics ever recorded by any pitcher in the world. During the mid-1950s Kaneda also won three consecutive Sawamura (Japan Cy Young) awards.
