The Sultan of Swat has been a hero in Japan ever since his playing days. That's why Baseball Fan chose Ruth as the cover subject for their first issue (May 1947). We believe that The Yakyu Fan (Baseball Fan) magazine had a short life, as we have never seen an issue published later than June 1950. At the time of publication, there was a significant paper shortage in Japan, so the paper quality of this magazine is quite poor. However, this is the highest grade copy (both cover and inside pages) that we have seen to date.  There are a number of photos and articles on Japanese baseball inside, but no Ruth content other than the cover.
